The Boreal Shirt is a full coverage Wool shelter for your woodland pursuits.

With a generous fit and rugged construction, this shirt might never return to your closet. It's cut long enough to shield your hips, and wide to stuff with layers.

The wrists cinch shut with stainless steel snaps, while the hood and neck gauntlet close down with draw cords. There's a bungee at the hem to stop drafts and let you adjust the length. The front pocket offers shelter for your hands, and multiple storage pouches for gathering. There's even a zippered pocket for your valuables and two lashing rings for keys or tools.

Wool is naturally flame retardant, antibacterial, and resistant to dirt and oils. It holds body heat when it's wet, and wicks moisture away from your body to regulate your personal environment.   You'll spend less time worrying about staying clean, working with fire in camp, or changing your layers when the temperatures shift. What's more, we've pre-shrunk the fabric so you can care for it at home.

Handmade with pride in Duluth, Minnesota.

Durable, Rugged, Outdoor Jacket Built to Last a Lifetime

    Exceeds Expectations

Posted by Terence Parkinson on Feb 14th 2020

    Hey everyone
Just wanted to post a quick review. I received my boreal shirt about a week ago and all I can say is I love it. I have a $700 Fjallraven jacket that the boreal shirt has outperforming in Ontario winter conditions. Had it out in -10c yesterday for the whole day and was super comfortable with a sweater underneath.
The fit is spot on. I had to call in a couple times to confirm sizing as I was worried about the fit (I am one of those annoying customers) - the recommendation based off our conversation turned out to be perfect.
Absolutely love this thing; practical and it also looks great in my opinion. If you are debating getting one; just do it. My new favourite Garment. Well worth the money. Hope this helps anyone unsure. Thanks!

    Boreal Shirt Anorak

Posted by Brad M on Jan 26th 2020

What a great transaction from start to finish. Ordered the Boreal shirt anorak on Jan 11, 2020 and received it Jan 25, 2020. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is evident throughout the garment. Impeccable seams, no loose threads. Im 5’10” 235 and ordered the Large. I usually nave trouble with sleeves being annoyingly shirt. Not so with this anorak. I will be refining the layering scheme but so far I have work a Poartec base layer and just the anorak in 28* and was comfortable. It fits perfectly as insulation under Fajallraren Anorak #8. I highly recommend the Lester River Boreal shirt anorak.

This is my absolute favorite piece of gear! It's a solid shirt. Plenty of pockets. Plenty of places to close out the cold. Incredible, worth every penny!

lester river 100% wool boreal shirt

Posted by Bill B on Feb 3rd 2019

By far the best jacket I ever owned. I bought this Jacket Sept 2018 and wear it in weather from 40 degrees above zero to the recent -45 drgrees below zero we just had here in Minnesota ( feb 2109 record lows ). This jacket is amazing when using the right layers under it. At those below below zero temp's I paired this jacket with the Duluth Pack Co. Adirondack Jacket and had no problem being warm and dry . I wear this jacket winter camping , fall camping , walking the dog, sledding, outside cold weather chores ITS AMAZING111. Im 5'10" tall and 200 lbs. I bought the large and tons of room to layer for all weather temps and activities. Don't let the price scare you away. This Jacket has kept me alive winter camping in Northern MN, and kept me cozy warm due fall football. In fact every time I wear it people comment on how warm I stay and how nice it looks. With my job and hobbies I spent a ton of time outdoors. This is hands down the best jacket I have ever owned.

    Awesome product ordering another

Posted by Bill Wade on Dec 10th 2018

I’m an US Army Infantry Vet 1990-1998, I’ve fished and hunted the northeast US since I was a young kid, I’ve done construction across US and Canada for the last 20+ years, I’m currently doing heavy construction drilling, excavation, foundations, hi-rise and superstructure concrete in NYC year round. During winters when the winds blow down Hudson and East Rivers when you’re 30-75ft below or 500 to 1000ft+ above street level out in cold for 9+hrs per day you freeze your gobblegools off period thee end. From youth, military, work, life, etc... I absolutely hate being cold! I get real cranky! I’ve tried so much gear adding to my kit to stay warm over the years from military issue stuff, Carhartt, Dickies, Under Armor, and other fugazzi crap etc... to stay warm you have to layer so thick you can’t move. Then about a year or so ago after following Dave Canterbury of Pathfinder School I learned about the 100% wool boreal shirt. At first I thought $250+ was pricey for a hoodie. Recently I said screw it and tried to order one but was redirected to you guys at Lester River. I received this past Friday, the quality and construction was amazing I wore all weekend temps in NJ / NYC are in 20-30s. I was extremely impressed and really warm. I wore today to work for first time. I loved it and so did many of the 60+ guys I work with. I wore just a flannel shirt and a woolrich vest at times I was almost too warm. I’m 6’3” 240lbs I ordered XL there’s plenty of room to add some additional layers when temps drop further. After I submit this review I’m ordering another one for use at home. Thank you for creating and selling such a great product. For those on the fence about ordering one or more do it you will not be disappointed!!!

    BOREAL SHIRT

Posted by Jason on Apr 2nd 2018

Best purchase I have ever made for serious bushcraft.
Get it one or even two sizes bigger than needed so you can layer if needed. ( AIR BETWEEN LAYERS = WARMTH )
I have used this in UTAH back country in January with a base layer , hoodie,Smartt wool button up then the boreal and was very warm until the temperature dropped below -25 Fahrenheit.
    THIS IS A MUST HAVE.
I WILL BE ORDERING ANOTHER SOON .

    Even better than I expected

Posted by Jim Rodgers on Feb 28th 2018

I ordered the Boreal Shirt after seeing several reviews of the product. I received the shirt today and I am very surprised at the quality of the design, materials and construction. The XL size I ordered fits my 6'5", 220# frame just right. The organizational features of the large pocket on the front are well thought out and well made. All of the seams are perfectly sewn. It's an anorak style hoodie done right.

    Amazing

Posted by Michael Hochradel on Feb 5th 2018

The quality of this product exceeded my expectations, even after the video reviews I watched singing its praises. Heirloom quality, to say the least. And warm? Oh my goodness, is it toasty.

I've not been able to find a single flaw in workmanship. I'm really blown away by this item.

Be aware, they run big. I expect this is because it's intended to be worn over layers. I'm typically a 2xlt guy. The XL is almost too big, but that's trying it on over a t shirt. In the field, I expect this will be sized perfectly for my rotund proportions (6'2", 295). The sleeves are long, and the hem comes down well past my hips.
